Anti-Ragging Committee
The Anti-Ragging Committee at Kamkus College of Law is a dedicated body established in compliance with UGC regulations and Supreme Court directives to prevent, prohibit, and eliminate the scourge of ragging within our educational institution. The committee works diligently to create and maintain a culture of discipline, mutual respect, and harmonious coexistence among students.
Committed to fostering a safe and secure environment, our committee implements comprehensive preventive measures, monitors sensitive areas, and ensures prompt action against any reported incidents. We believe that an environment free from fear and intimidation is essential for the holistic development of students and their academic excellence.
Definition and Forms of Ragging
What Constitutes Ragging?
Ragging encompasses any disorderly conduct, whether by words spoken or written, or by an act that has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling with rudeness any student. It includes rowdy or undisciplined activities that cause annoyance, hardship, psychological harm, or fear in a junior student.
Forms of Ragging
- Verbal Abuse: Insulting language, taunting, or psychological pressure
- Physical Harassment: Any form of physical abuse or forced physical activity
- Sexual Harassment: Unwelcome sexual advances or remarks
- Financial Exploitation: Forcing juniors to spend money on treats or activities
- Social Exclusion: Deliberately excluding students from social activities
- Cyberbullying: Harassment through digital platforms or social media
Preventive Measures
Awareness Programs
Conducting regular orientation sessions and workshops to educate students about the negative impacts of ragging and the severe consequences.
Vigilance Teams
Formation of dedicated vigilance teams that monitor sensitive areas within the campus, especially during the initial weeks of the academic session.
Anonymous Complaint System
Implementing a confidential reporting mechanism that allows victims or witnesses to report incidents without fear of retaliation.
Mentorship Programs
Establishing senior-junior mentorship programs that foster healthy relationships between students across different years.
Regular Inspections
Conducting surprise inspections in hostels and other campus areas to ensure compliance with anti-ragging regulations.
Consequences and Disciplinary Actions
Kamkus College of Law maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. Any student found guilty of ragging is subject to one or more of the following punitive actions, depending on the severity of the offense:
Institutional Level Penalties
- Suspension from attending classes
- Withholding or withdrawing scholarship/fellowship
- Debarring from appearing in examinations
- Withholding results
- Suspension or expulsion from hostel or institution
- Cancellation of admission
Legal Consequences
- Filing of FIR with local police authorities
- Criminal prosecution under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code
- Penalties under the UGC Act and other applicable laws
